ARK shares the following vision, as set out in the Scottish Government's Scottish Strategy for Autism, published in 2011:
“Our vision is that individuals on the autism spectrum are respected, accepted and valued by their communities and have confidence in services to treat them fairly so that they are able to have meaningful and satisfying lives.”
The Scottish Strategy for Autism
Autism is a lifelong, developmental condition that affects the way a person communicates, interacts and processes information.
Around 1 in 100 people are living with autism. (700,000 in the UK alone).
People with autism may also have a learning disability but it can also affect people of average to high intellectual ability.
Some people on the autistic spectrum will have more subtle difficulties where others will have complex needs requiring more intensive support.
ARK are very committed to respecting the need for specialised accommodation to meet the individual needs of people with autism.
