Scottish Social Housing Charter

The Scottish Social Housing Charter is a “list of outcomes, or results, that landlords should achieve.”

It is there to make sure that housing associations like ARK improve the quality and value of their service.

The Charter was written by the Scottish Government, Tenants, Landlords, and other people who are interested in Housing and The Charter.

The Government has agreed to do the things that are written in the Charter. This means that ARK needs to do what it says in the Charter.

What is an outcome?

An outcome is simply a result. It is something you want to happen and that you can plan for.

How Does the Charter Help Me?

  • The Charter tells you what outcomes (or results) you can expect from ARK.undefined
  • The Charter tells ARK to ask you what is important to you.
  • The Charter helps the Scottish Housing Regulator to measure if ARK is providing a good housing service.
  • The charter requires ARK to give you an annual update on how it has performed
  • The Charter will also help the Scottish Government to decide who should get money from the public. Only Associations who get good ratings will get money.

Outcomes and Standards to expect from ARK

The Scottish Housing Charter has 7 different sections that tell you the results, or outcomes, you should expect from ARK. There are 16 outcomes in total.

The 2017-2018 Housing Report (PDF, 1.5KB, opens in new window) or 2017-2018 Housing Report Easy Read is ARK’s fifth Annual Report for tenants about how ARK is doing as a landlord since the Scottish Social Housing Charter was introduced.

Fiona Ross, Head of Housing Services, welcomed the findings of the report:

“ARK would like to thank all of our customers, partner organisations, contractors and others for their assistance and support over the past year. My thanks also go to ARK staff for their continued commitment, dedication and their professionalism in helping to achieve our aims in another successful year at ARK Housing Association Ltd."

Further Information

The Charter is a result of the Housing (Scotland) Act 2010 which also introduced an independent Scottish Housing Regulator to look after the interests of tenants and others who use the services of social landlords like ARK.

It was approved by the Scottish Parliament on 14 March 2012 and came into effect from 1 April 2012.
