"BEFORE MY SUPPORT WITH ARK, I USED TO SPEND MOST OF THE TIME IN MY BEDROOM”

Saturday 3rd December is International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

To celebrate, we would like to tell you about Ty and how we are supporting him to lead a fulfilling and independent life.

Since getting support from Ark, Ty has enjoyed getting out and about.

Ty and his family were looking for him to have his own home with support.  Together with social work and the Ark support team, they made a plan and started working towards this goal.

Ty started to spend one night a month in a respite.

This helped him to become more independent.

Every time there has been great progress.

Ty now makes his lunch and cups of tea, goes in the shower, brushes his teeth, makes his bed, and puts his electronics on charge with no prompting from staff.

Ty has also started to express how he is feeling by using his words with staff which he had never done before.

Ty said the sleepover support "feels good", and they are "relaxing".

He looks forward to the next one more and more.

Ty is very excited to eventually live on his own with Ark's support.
