Ark Blairgowrie goes to Blackpool

At Ark, we value how we support people to have a good life.

This means planning positive risk-taking so that people can do normal everyday things like going on holiday.

Recently the Blairgowrie team has spent time planning a weekend away to Blackpool for a group of 11 supported people.

The group went at the beginning of October for 3 nights of fun.

From scary times at the Halloween Freak Night to Sea Life Centre, from Madame Tussauds to the Sandcastle Water Park, plus Coral Island amusements, the circus, and karaoke.

The group did so much over the weekend!

It was all made possible by a team of 6 Ark staff members, Angie, Annmarie, Cheryl, Dawn, Christine and also Shaun, the Blairgowrie Care and Support Manager.

“I have had such a great weekend and overcome lots of fears!” Kyle

“Really enjoyed myself and enjoyed making new friends, especially enjoyed the Freak Night at Pleasure beach and seeing Shaun and Kyle run!" Charlie

"I have had the best time, can we do it next year?’" Karen

"Thank you to the team, it has been a good holiday." Stuart

"I have really enjoyed my holiday and support. Thought it was good fun." George

Care and Support Manager Shaun said:

"It was amazing to see how all the support team worked hard to meet the supported people’s outcomes and how important it is for our supported people to work through positive risk-taking to enable activities they really want to do.

Over the weekend I was able to see so many smiles and so much happiness.

It reminds me of what an amazing team we have and the great work that Ark does!"

Support Worker Annmarie said:

"My highlight was seeing the smiles on people’s faces when they achieved something they didn’t do before and the enjoyment of the group holiday."

Thank you, to the Blairgowrie team for sharing with us an example of great support.
