Help someone take a life-changing step into their own home

Ark is recruiting Support Practitioners to join a new support package in Galashiels. The service will provide 1:1, 24-hour support to an adult with learning disabilities, autism and complex support needs as he transitions into his own home, alongside additional two-to-one support in the community

This is a unique opportunity to be involved from the very beginning of a new support package, helping someone establish meaningful routines, develop independence and become part of his local community.

If you are calm, compassionate, resilient and committed to supporting people to live their best lives, we would love to hear from you.

About the Role

As a Support Practitioner, you will work as part of a passionate, committed and consistent team providing 1:1 support across both day support and waking night support. The role will focus on creating a safe, structured and respectful environment where the supported person can feel settled, understood and able to make choices about his life.

Your main duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing 1:1 support with all aspects of daily living.

  • Supporting daily routines, personal outcomes, independence and choice.

  • Encouraging community involvement, social inclusion and meaningful activity.

  • Providing emotional reassurance and calm, consistent support.

  • Using positive behavioural support approaches in line with support plans and training.

  • Working collaboratively with colleagues, family members and professionals.

  • Maintaining accurate records and contributing to support planning.

  • Supporting the successful development of a new support package centred around the individual's needs, goals and aspirations.

  • This role will involve both 12-hour day support shifts and 12-hour waking night support shifts, delivered as part of a dedicated team providing 24-hour support.

Who We're Looking For

  • We are looking for dedicated Support Practitioners who are:

  • Calm, patient and resilient, including during challenging situations.

  • Compassionate and committed to delivering high-quality, respectful support.

  • Able to build positive, trusting relationships at the supported person's pace.

  • Reliable, flexible and willing to work as part of a consistent team.

  • Experienced in supporting people with autism, fragile X, learning disabilities or complex needs, or willing to learn through training and development.

  • Passionate about promoting dignity, choice, independence and quality of life.

Previous experience in social care is advantageous but not essential. What matters most is your values, your ability to remain calm and consistent, and your commitment to person-centred support. Full training and ongoing support will be provided.
